On August 11th, our very own Heather Carlucci organized the 2nd annual Pig Mountain: Pig Roast and veggie fest in Narrowsburg, NY. The event was a huge success and we’re delighted to have been involved!
The event featured 8 fantastic chefs from the NYC and Narrowsburg Area: Heather Carlucci, Jake Klein (Morrell Wine Bar), Ryan Tate (All Good Things), Shawn Gawle, George McKirdy (Astor Bakeshop), Lee Ann Wong, Paul Nanni (Heron), Peter Schott (The Lodge at Woodloch), and Matt Ridgeway (Porcsalt). Each chef was given their own heritage pig and was left to their own devices. The beautiful pigs were sourced from Stone & Thistle Farm as well as from Lucki 7 Livestock.
The chefs gathered at Sky Dog Farm on Friday, which was generously offered as the “basecamp.” The Pigs were cleaned, the veggies were prepped, and the pits were dug out. Throughout the day, the chefs all toiled together to prepare a feast that would take over the beautiful town of Narrowsburg for 6 hours. After a long, hard day, the chefs retreated to their abodes at the incomparably stylish Mildred’s Lane.
When Saturday came around, the Quiet Town of Narrowsburg was inundated with Food lovers from near and far- over 850 to be exact. As everyone enjoyed the feast put out by these remarkable chefs, music by the Secular Sextet brought rhythm to the day.
The event was an amazing display of support for the FarmHearts foundation, with all proceeds being donated to the organization, whose mission is to to help family farms in the Catskills, whether by lending assistance through grants, helping to bring added value to a farm’s existing products, offering grassroots support for marketing or distribution or helping open the door to the next generation of farmers. We were delighted to support the event, which we tie closely to our philosophy of focusing on locally sourced, sustainable food. We provided vehicles, dry goods, and a helping hand in the form of Luke, our fantastic Pastry Sous Chef, and Johanna, our in-house Forager.
